SEEN ALL THOSE FANCY FILTERS AND EXTRAVAGANT ESPRESSO MACHINES AND WANT A TASTE?
Warning: This page will probably ruin coffee for you everywhere but at home!
People like you are standing up and saying "Hey, I don't need to drink sh*t coffee, I deserve something better". Yes you do. Welcome to the world of Specialty Coffee.
IT STARTS WITH HIGH QUALITY ARABICA BEANS
Most mainstream brands will not use these. The beans will be a different type (usually a type called Robusta), lesser quality Arabica, or just a small percentage of Arabica. Why? MARGINS BABY. Big fat margins.
People drink it, so why change? Well, change is coming - specialty coffee is growing, so much that you could get lost in a whole new world of coffee. Look for coffee with 100% Arabica Beans.
ROASTED RIGHT UP TO THE MINUTE
You'll hear and read all about 'freshness'. Freshly roasted, freshly ground (we'll come on to that), storing correctly to retain freshness. Why? Because coffee goes stale so quickly.
Put simply - you want a roast date on your pack that is as recent as possible.
If it has no roast date, it's not going to be as fresh - AND IT MAKES A DIFFERENCE.
Why pay for a something that is already degrading?
ORIGINS, VARIETALS, ALTITUDES AND PROCESSES
Now you're baffled. We can see that. We'll add content here that goes fully into this but for now know this:
This all gives variety of flavour.
Depending where in the world the beans are from, the variety of Arabica beans they are, the height they're grown at and the way they're picked and prepared for roasting.
ON THE SUBJECT OF FLAVOUR, WHATS WITH THE 'TASTING NOTES'?
"It says 'Chocolate and Citrus' - is there chocolate and citrus in the coffee?"
Ha you wish! Because of such a wide range of flavours in specialty coffee its helpful to use other foods and tastes to help illustrate how one coffee may be different from another. There's no hard and fast rules.
We even state that our own tasting notes are our own opinions. You'll certainly find your own words (good ones hopefully).
THE BREW IS DOWN TO YOU
And we come to the world of brewing. As if the coffee itself isn't enough, the way coffee is brewed unlocks all sorts of new flavours and experiences too.
Yet for many, a simple bag of pre-ground coffee and a cafetiere (french press) is enough. We understand this - and that's why we provide our main coffees pre-ground for easy brewing, guaranteed to make a great cup with little effort.
However, you can get deep into the world of different brew methods, have a lot of fun and get deep into debt spending on all the gear!
Find our brew guides here - and in each one we give you a short overview of the brewer itself. Have a browse, you might find one you're particuarly interested in and BOOM! You already know how to brew Cauz coffee in it! Yay.
ONE MORE NOTE
if you can grind at home, and right before brewing, you'll get the best cup possible. But if not, don't worry, we've got you covered with some of our coffees being pre-ground for your brewing pleasure.
